I'm testing local open source AI models on my simple gaming laptop using Ollama and Opencode. Only have 6 GB of VRAM with RTX 2060 so it's super slooooow. Beggars can't be choosers I guess. Either I spend the money on a better machine - signed up for email list to know when the RTX Spark chip comes out - or pay the monthly fee for something like Claude Code. All the news about these heatwave deaths around the world make me wonder when we'll need simple air conditioned suits just to go outside? And every home will have air conditioners. And if your AC breaks it becomes an emergency situation. Which means the AC repair folks will be like an ambulance with sirens and lights. Playing Elite: Dangerous in VR mode with my Meta Quest 3 is awesome! Feels like actually sitting in the seat of the spaceship. I also love how the game has a 1:1 Milky Way galaxy so we have billions of stars that we'll never explore. Whenever my phone seems slow on the Wi-Fi I just switch to the opposite ssid I'm currently connected to 2.4 ghz vs 5 ghz. Doesn't matter which one, the act of switching seems to speed up my connection to my router. Why? Is it because I have waaaaay to many clients (31 with 2 more on Asus AI mesh nodes) and my phone is getting pushed down some preferred client list? Asus RT-AX3000 is my router.
