Marx and the Death of the Author XI: Does losing the chains include supply chains?

The 1950s was a period of immense economic, technological, and political optimism. The bloody horrors of the Second World War had subsided, and the only countries experiencing the full paranoia of the Cold War were the United States, United Kingdom, and the Soviet Union, in that order. The rest of the world was rebuilding after the horrors of war or moving...

Project Detox Day 1

Link to last post

Yesterday was good. I got a fair bit of work done and a lot of planning for an upcoming project I'll be posting about here soon.

I also checked and since getting off socials, I've written > 2,000 words on Cyberpunk Gnostica, my cyberpunk fiction worldbuilding project. That's a pretty awesome chunk of writing that may not have existed if I kept going down the brainrot hole.

I'm also sleeping really...

It’s 2AM and I was supposed to be doing digital art, but there’s a thunderstorm and I’m worried about losing my progress if the power goes out (again)… Soo I’m sitting on the balcony watching it pass by instead. It’s just enough to cover me from the rain while I drink my Kirin milk tea. (ノ´ヮ`)ノ*: ・゚✧ procrastination!

I was hoping for some bigger bolts of lightning but sadly it’s just been a drizzle with some low rumbles of thunder with the drone of city ambulances in the distance. Hoping for a good*`...

I've heard of a little corner on the internet named KamTube
I have an idea for what I want to put up there
I'm a singer, I love to sing, but my range isn't the widest, so I can only sing small bits of the songs I really like
I'm sure if I compromised and chose songs that better fit my range, I could be successful with it, but I don't want to give that up when that's the whole reason why I do it
So I was thinking of compiling most of my little clips into one video and throwing it on there
I'm real...

Building Apps with AI Tools

I refuse to pay a dime for any of these AI tools but I am using every last ounce of free credits across Gemini, ChatGPT, and Claude to build apps and scripts and tools and games. Right now I'm building a helper app for Elite Dangerous for searching for Raxxla and other interesting things across the galaxy. You can see the code repo here and even chip in some of your AI credits by telling it to read the docs and readme including the ai-handoff.md file I asked it to create so that it...

"Linux is a great OS!" he said. "It'll be a great experience" he said.

I have tried over 20 distros. Every single one is either unable to install, not secure, or has such an outdated package manager and repo list that it cannot install anything.

I am two distros away from throwing Windows XP on this thing and calling it a day.

...Then I did

This project has been practically the culmination of a lifetime of effort and direction.

I am an IVF baby with a random doner father who's from another country.
The shit I have done and gone through to find him has made me who I am today, almost as a testament to my "l33t h4ck0r skillz" I wanted to find him.

And I just did, I am 100% sure this is him, OSINTing this man and all his information lines up with the data that I made off him for cross referencing. This has been my goal for my whole...

Making little webpages is an artform

For a long time I have been the kind of person who felt the need to make pet project websites look good, with CSS and JS and a light and dark mode, blah blah. When I put together a functional homepage for my indieweb page, it took me a week to fine-tune all the annoying ways in which the CSS interacted with each other - flexboxes, grids, tables and resizable views.

I've leaned towards enforcing a minimum display size so that I can make designs that will always look the same. That adds a lot of overhead...

Some time ago I posted about going to a meetup and seeing free living bunnies in a park on the way. I went to another one in the same place today. I didn't see any on the way to, but they were there and closer to the path to the park on the way back. Unfortunately it was too dark to see clearly, but what was cute was that whenever they hopped about, you could seem a white flash from their tails/behinds....

I wanted to talk a little about the rock/metal band ghost. I’m fighting mosquito bites while at the gym trying to better myself and really need a distraction.

I was lucky enough to catch them in a small club when the band was starting out during the Infestissumam tour. A lot of metalheads appreciated what they were doing at that time. The band had deep influences in bands like black sabbath, blue oyster cult, blue cheer and iron butterfly. A few modern bands also have this similar song,...

Spent most of the day sorting and organizing all my dev boards, electronic components and other assorted things. Made a spreadsheet for tracking what I have, except common resistors and capacitors that just lie in big bags. Living in an apartment doesn't give much space for a dedicated tinkering corner so I packed some less used items and evicted them to the basement.

What do you use for keeping track of physical items? I've heard HomeBox is good, might try it soon.

project detox day 0

I detailed my plan and reasonings in a bit of a manifesto that was surprisingly cathartic to write. Today I guess I'll make this my first detox journal.

The first half of yesterday was all about planning and getting the right systems in place. Setting expectations and hard rules was vital for this.

  • No caffeine after noon - I'd made a bad habit of having an energy drink before my after-work training. That would lead me...
