New laptop
I need a new laptop for software development. Any suggestions?
I finally got my hands on a TOOL band shirt!
Delays suck
I’m sick of delaying the alpha release. From now on I will be committing my entire weekends to getting Astral-OS out. I’ve already got a few files out on GitHub but my main stumbling block is the void MK-iso utility. For some reason I can’t get it to include the packages I want so my top priority is to fix this and release the .iso file on Sourceforge. I am quite busy with work so all my free time will now be spent on development.
Another thing I want to do is to make a terminal emulator that doubles as...
Welp
Just bricked my astral-OS install, screwed up some stuff when I was partitioning my drive. Not a huge setback but I am very busy this week so I probably won’t get much done. Glad I got a few things uploaded to GitHub before I borked my drive though.
Dang it
For some dang reason, I can't get the ISO file to include and install the proper packages. Not sure what I am going to do about it just yet. I am going to be pretty busy in the next few months but I will still be working on Astral-OS on the weekends.
Wayland compositors
So far I am using the Sway compositor for Astral-OS but it feels like more than I need. I only need a compositor to run a single full screen terminal on boot. Does anyone know of a simple compositor like that? I will use sway for the alpha release and will most likely just remove any part of it that I don’t want but it will be subject to change.
Back to work
Going to resume development in about a week. My schedule is chaotic and development sometimes has to take a backseat. Thanks for following along with the project despite the delays, I’m itching to get the alpha version out ASAP.
Unfortunately I was unable to get the alpha version out on GitHub. I will attempt to get it out tomorrow but I am going on a road trip for a couple weeks and will be unable to continue work during that time. I will get it out eventually and I made great progress yesterday and today.
all or nothing
The Astral-OS iso is almost done being created and I will slap it into a VM to see if it works.
Wish me luck!
Slowly but surely
Today I spent a lot of time working with the void Linux mklive and was banging my head against the wall for literal hours wondering why on earth I couldn’t add Sway to the package list of stuff I wanted pre installed. I then came to the horrifying realization that it cant be included due to it being classified as a DE. I think I’ll get around this by adding it to the post-install script.
Oh and I also ran a Git community with sudo without realizing and it took me far to long to troubleshoot.
Ive been working hard all day and faced some very annoying errors. The main roadblock is currently the installer. I think im close to getting it done but it’s getting late and I am not thinking clearly anymore so I’m going to call it and get some sleep. I’ve updated the repo a bit but that was near the start of the session so not much has changed.
Good night Netizens! See you all tomorrow!
GIVE ME MUSIC!
Anyone have any music recomendations for getting into the zone with development? right now ive got Red hot chilli peppers playing and TOOL will deffinitly come onto the rotation.
Goodbye Microslop
I just wiped windows off of my laptop and replaced it with CachyOS and ya'know, I'm feeling kinda sad. I got that laptop for Christmas years ago and it came with windows on it. Sure, was windows11 amazing at the time? not really but it was the first computer I owned and somehow Windows just has a bit of sentimental value to me. I learnd how to use a computer with that laptop and now I'm saying goodbye.
But hey! now I am pretty much out of the whole microsoft ecosystem and I don't have to put up with...
1.0 release
This weekend I hope to release a 1.0 version of Astral-OS on GitHub! It’s going to be bare bones for now but updates will come out shortly after! If anyone tries it out please send me some feedback on C-mail!
Happy pride!!
Happy pride y’all! This is my first pride as a publicly out Panromantic/Asexual!
Just got the news that Linux is mostly exempt from the age verification laws!
Coffee cravings
It’s almost the middle of the night and for some reason I am craving an espresso or some really rich black coffee right now.
Currently making plans to impliment a sort of system control command. For example the user would type in astral-update and the system would update. I would impliment the same thing for wifi settings, system monitoring and other stuff. Not totaly sure I'll impliment this as it might interupt some peoples workflows if you are used to just typing in sudo pacman -Syu or something and it could just end up being bloatware.
Is this a good idea?...
After much trial, error, and deliberation, I have decided to continue development of Astral-OS on my laptop by dual booting it with Artix Linux. Originally I had been working in a Proxmox VM but that proved to cause many issues with graphics especially since my server lacks a GPU.
Development should resume on june 6and be much faster.
I can’t wait to release it and continue to work and tinker with it. If any of you decide to boot it up and give it a go, please send me feedback on what I can improve...
Nothing like going to a bar and drinking good craft beer while singing sea shanties
