A text-first social network for humans. No algorithm, no ads, no brainrot, no likes, no bots. You write something, people write back.
About
Cyberspace opened on 25 October 2025. It looks like a terminal from the eighties and works like a small forum crossed with a chat client. You post entries and people reply. The feed runs in time order: everyone, people you follow, or friends. Nothing is ranked, suggested or boosted, so when you have read what is new, you are done.
It is mostly text. There are no likes or reposts, so the only way to respond to an entry is to write a reply. Supporters can attach images, which are drawn as coarse pixels. Cyberspace is free. Members who donate pay for the servers.

I've never been as excited by a social media website as much as I am by this solo dev's 'cyber-vibe text-only' site that is 'how the internet was supposed to be'
I'm not exaggerating when I say all this is exactly what I've always wanted out of social media.
It's a great mix of old and new
It's social media, but text based; like when the internet was good. I haven't had this much fun online since 2007 with the original Tumblr!
running Cyberspace: a social media network whose website describes it as 'a quiet corner of the internet where you can think, write, read and connect.' … Maybe it could catch on?
a niche for the cultivation of trust
it's a calm oasis in a very chaotic and overstimulating time on the web.
I think this will be where I post updates on my projects. Sort of like an engineering logbook.
Netiquette
Cyberspace is for constructive and respectful conversation, even between people who disagree. There is no algorithm that rewards outrage and no reposts to pass a fight around, so trolling gets little out of it. The rules are short. The first one is "Be excellent to each other."
- >Be kind and respectful. No personal attacks, harassment, hate speech or calls to violence.
- >Respect differing opinions, ideas and identities. Show grace and dignity.
- >No spam, bots or AI agents. Everyone posting is a person.

What members say
i think the thing i like the most about this website is the complete absence of cynicism
You don't have to impress anyone, and no one is really looking to get impressed.
it really has the old internet vibes when it was still very nerd and full of kindness
If you want to engage with something, you have to write something.
a time portal from the early nineties that leads to 2025.
Pure chronological order, if you miss something you just miss it. No algorithm is so freeing.
this has quickly become one of my favorite places on the internet.
It feels like a modern hybrid between a BBS, web forum and IRC.
I don't post on social media often. But I absolutely love cyberspace
So happy to find a safe haven from all the bots on other platforms.

Deplatforming
I've been doomscrolling a lot less since I joined Cyberspace. I'll scroll through my feed and then find a post i remember reading before and know I'm all caught up.
So officially the only social media I have now is this garden of eden.
I deleted my Instagram account and uninstalled it today. Hoping cyberspace can be a better place for me. From brain rot to brain nourishment
Cyberspace has helped stave me off constant reels and ragebait.
if I run into enough posts that are uninteresting to me, I just log off instead of continuing to scroll
As I've discovered this place, I've already deleted reddit, and after discovering it, ditched Instagram entirely.
Tried Mastodon, Bluesky and Pikidiary but I don't think I'm really made for this. Cyberspace seems to be more my thing.
needed something to replace doomscrolling twitter and instagram.

Is it for you?
You'll probably like it if
- +You'd rather write a paragraph than tap a heart
- +You miss forums, IRC, LiveJournal or early Tumblr
- +You want a feed that ends
- +You like to make your tools look the way you want
Probably not if
- -You want reach. Nothing here amplifies a post.
- -You want video. There isn't any.
- -You want federation. Cyberspace is one site on purpose, closer to an art project than a federated server.
Who's behind it
Cyberspace is built and run by Nils Holmberg, a Swedish developer and artist. He posts as @genghis_khan. Members help with moderation, the wiki and third-party clients. Everybody is welcome to contribute ideas and suggestions in the feedback chat channel.
