[ESC]This month I had two interactions with Spanish police traffic units (guardia civil).
Before writing, interacting with police was what I feared most when I started transition 3.95 years ago. Since then, I got experienced by exposition.
First one (this month). I was coming a friday from sword fighting in Madrid to my home in killtheblonda. That day I had a strong sword impact in my head and was a bit concussed. I cleaned my hair in the academy, so I was not wearing wig, and that makes me feel much more insecure. I have long natural hair, but it is very damaged by constant exercise.
I wasn't very agile or precise in my answers. They ask me where I was going, and saw my swords in the car trunk through the windows, but my story convinced them, and didn't even opened the trunk or ask for my ID.
Second one (yesterday). I was going from my home to the sword fighting academy, clean and with blonde nice wig. They required me directly my ID, and while I give it, I said (as I always do).
-Doesn't matter what is in this document, my current name since four years ago is Valeria.
Ok, they embody the legal authority, but I firmly and politely express my day-by-day reality. They can deny it, but then, they are the rude ones.
-Ok, Valeria. Have you sword class today? -asked me the police.
Yes, they was the same that stopped me weeks ago. So I explained a bit about HEMA as they were curious about. And then they checked my ID on the tablet, and said:
-So, you also like shotguns, Valeria.
-Yeah! -I answered with a big smile-. That little device of yours tells you everything about me.
-Yes, we know everything! -said the GC.
-Did it tell that my most lethal weapon is my lipstick?
And we both laughed. They didn't open my car truck (they were heavily doing with other vehicles), and left me go.
And that's it. My first auto lesson is I got more confident and natural... but also I'm sure they wouldn’t have liked this kind of exaggerated sense of humor at all before transitioning.
