An Urugayo Murga as textbook as it comes. Murga is a traditional form of theatre that I do not know much about other than the musical structure. a choir of vocalists and a band of percussionists.
Aside from that, the lyrics are actually much more positive than the melody portrays. A concept I think hits Uruguay hammer on nail. Every Urugayo I've met have been the nicest and most selfless people I've met. Down to earth to the core, People people. They love to connect with people like this band show in their performance. But their history is not without war, pain, and struggle. That said, Uruguay is also the home of my favourite left wing president: The poorest president, Jose "Pepe" Mujica. A former guerilla who became a farmer, and though elected as el presidente, he refused to accept a fancy office and the income. Instead, he remained present in his farm, and put the money into his the development of his Country. Truly an example of what true leadership should look like.
Once again, this song, a song that sings about community, love and song, in the minor key with no change in velocity, harsh and firm, is - hammer on the nail - what I see as a true definition of what Pepe, and perhaps all of Uruguay, stood for. Love, and Community, simplicity of life, but by no means a quiet delivery of such.
