Wandering Around Japan Virtually

I was reading Hacker News and came across this blog post from someone who enjoyed using Google Maps to wander around areas of Tokyo:

I have used Street View on Google Maps to cruise around Japan as well and it is a great way to explore places you are interested in or may want to visit some day. In the case of Japan you can use Street View to go visit temples, back alleyways, famous spots, go for a neighborhood walk, and just generally go exploring. It is really cool.

Another thing that is fun that people do are "Japan Walks" where they use high quality video cameras as they walk through areas of Japan. For example here is one where you can go on a snowy walk through Tokyo on a channel called "4k Japan":

There are many such channels, and some of them go for an hour or more. It's nice to sometimes just have it running on the side while you are doing other things and glancing over at it from time to time. You have crystal clear visuals, high fidelity sound where you can hear footsteps, people talking, city sounds, nature sounds (cicadas in the summer), and at nighttime it is neat to see the Japanese people out and about and enjoying themselves.

The videos from these "Japan Walkers" cover just about any area of Japan you can think of, so you can just browse their video lists and find a place that interests you, put it on, and enjoy!
