[ESC]Wildwood thoughts + Godzilla stuff
It’s been a productive few days and I just got from following a few coyotes down a dark street after checking out wildwood, ironically. Likely looking for a house car or jackrabbit to catch.
It was such a beautiful looking movie. I don’t really know what else to say. The emotions on the characters faces, the wind through their hair, the momentum and physics of the battles, the tasteful and graphic violence and even the little visual nod to Frank Frazetta… there’s so much where I was literally scratching my head trying to understand how they filmed it physically.
It was the first time in a while I had felt actual danger from a movie, too. It was great to feel worried about characters because actual loss and uncertainty was presented in such a good way. The antagonist and their army were the selling point to me because of this, personally. I found myself laughing a lot at the mannerisms of the coyotes. They were great.
One particular direction I thought was very thoughtful was how Portland was pictured as zany and weird, but wasn’t “deep” or truly captivating like the impassible wilderness, despite the beautiful sets and characters in the city the artists worked on.
If you have the chance please go see it before it leaves the theatres. It’s well worth your time.
In the meantime it’s Godzilla day! (72 years!) I’ll be playing the Godzilla destroy all monsters melee remaster until I’m back to work tomorrow morning, then it’s an early screening of Godzilla minus zero on Thursday… The monster general election I posted about finished as well, with Xenolhu being the new fan chosen monster for Godzilla to face against in the future. (Hopefully with only practical effects) Fingers always crossed Godzilla is in my future as an artist.
