Weird fossil

Last summer there was a fossilized centrum of a vertebra my girlfriend had found when I drug her out to hunt for fossils. I’ve contacted the Royal Tyrell museum of Alberta with photos and they don’t have an answer for what it came from, it’s quite strange.

In their words: A couple of the palaeontologists thought it was from a marine reptile, probably plesiosaur. However, their marine reptile expert does not think it is plesiosaur and thought it was fish or dinosaur. The dinosaur experts say that it is not dinosaur and their fish expert says it is not fish. It is very intriguing and is probably better seen in person…

So at some point I’ll have to take a trip to the desert as it’s probably better seen in person. It’ll be nice to get some life drawing practice in at the museum anyways; and lucky for me it’s not the only dinosaur related art project I’m a part of lately so I’ll update everyone more as these things continue to progress!
