[ESC]Why is the common view of the internet that the internet is lawless, and unsafe, and unregulated, despite what any network engineer will tell you, which is that it is dripping with bureaucracy.
Quick list
- Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) + Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA)
- Manages the Domain Name System (RFC 1035), including accreditation and the root zone
- Much of the Internet Protocol (assigning IP blocks, not in how IP is designed)
- Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF)
- Designs networking protocols under TCP/IP.
- Designs general standards for the internet. Voluntary, but no one plays with you unless you listen to them.
- Regional Internet Registeries
- Take up IPs and dish them out for their regions to ISPs (e.g, Asia-Pacfic, Europe/Middle East/Central Asia)
- Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
- Developer of many low level standards, such as Ethernet, WiFi, Bluetooth, despite these being managed by their own organisations often, the standards are made by the IEEE.
Additionally platforms enforce their own regulations, unilaterally.
