[ESC]Unsolicited Thought of the Day:
I’ve been thinking about warfare and how it has evolved throughout history, specifically how the introduction of new technologies often changes the entire face of war, and how certain tools and methods of fighting become obsolete. Now, where does this musing lead? Autonomous weaponry. Ukraine has demonstrated some of the first real-world uses of fully autonomous weapons, meaning they (the autonomous drones) targeted, tracked, and “eliminated” humans without direct human control. Many people have warned us about this. Many of us have watched Terminator, surely. However, I believe this is our Black Raven, our moment of crisis, and perhaps our generation’s great lesson. In the same way siege cannons made medieval walls obsolete, autonomous weapons may make humans obsolete on the battlefield. And maybe… they remove everyone from the battlefield, combatant and non-combatant alike.
