What happened to trash tv shows?

Growing during the early mid 2000s to mid 2010s I remember trash reality tv shows being very popular and everywhere around that time. Especially stuff like Alaskan Bush People, Naked And Afraid, Duck Dynasty, and muncho more.

So what happen to them??

Well I believe a mix of a bunch of shit happened within the last years since these shows started airing, especially Cultural changes and industry changes. Most people don’t want to watch the same stuff forever, which is also a problem when same said media becomes oversaturated and soulless. Another cultural talking point is the change of perception on what’s harmless and what’s not . Some to most of these shows look really bad nowadays, especially with some being about child beauty pageants and monetizing teenage pregnancies. Many have also have been exposed to harbor awful family secrets like the Alaskan Bush People’s Brown family.

From a industry/tech stand point the tv world has also changed a lot within the time these shows were on tv, a lot of the technology now is more digital than it ever was with smart tvs and streaming services widening the scope for viewers beyond just reality shows.

While I admit I miss the tv of yesterday, iI also have to come to terms with the fact that maybe some of those shows disappeared for the betterment of society and that my current enjoyment with recent trash tv shows is now out of a morbid sense of curiosity.

(Thank you for reading! What do you think of them. Also which demographic did these shows target the most in your opinion.)
