Project Detox Day 1
Yesterday was good. I got a fair bit of work done and a lot of planning for an upcoming project I'll be posting about here soon.
I also checked and since getting off socials, I've written > 2,000 words on Cyberpunk Gnostica, my cyberpunk fiction worldbuilding project. That's a pretty awesome chunk of writing that may not have existed if I kept going down the brainrot hole.
I'm also sleeping really well since I instituted that rule about not drinking caffeine past 12. Turns out the scientists and doctors may have been on to something about caffeine's half life...
Some things I'm realizing:
- It's fairly hard to avoid YouTube, as well as X to a lesser extent. For example, I had the Google Discover widget on my phone. I used it for news. It started to tune its algo on me, though, and was starting to recommend... not really "news" but "articles": things like podcast clips about MMA, popular history posts on X, etc. This was being fed right into the panel next to my homepage on my phone. So, once I realized that was going on, I deleted the widget. Guess I'll have to work harder on that RSS feed here soon.
- When your brain isn't distracted, it will find things to work on. The classic Scroll Spot is on the toilet, for example. I was bad about it, to a point that it became a joke between my wife and I that I took hour long poops and came out with brainrot. Now that I don't scroll, trips to the toilet are shorter and while I'm there, I come up with cool ideas for Cyberpunk Gnostica and the projects I'm working on.
- Training multiple disciplines is hard. I did leg day the other day, then running the next day, then chest yesterday and now Jiu Jitsu tonight. I am not looking forward to rolling with legs that feel like jelly lol.
So far the project is going well. I'm proud of my progress on it.
