Many years ago we had a day experience checking out a local uni and I brought my photography kit with me. We ended up in a science room and the professor was showing us bridge simulations in extreme weather conditions; after this he talks about chemical reactions with dry ice and water. Then asks if we wanted to see a demo and he proceeded to assemble a small DIY science shrapnel bomb, shakes it violently and then runs like all hell outside yelling "If you want to see come quickly!" then he shook it some more, laid it on the ground and told everyone to get behind the pillars. I managed to get pictures of the plastic shrapnel, moment of explosion and the shrapnel just missing someone's face.
Here is the only picture I could find of this, the moment of explosion.
