Everybody is gonna be happy / be happy

You're gonna make you so happy / so happy

The stitches didn't hold

My blood is running cold

You're tearing into me

You're happy as can be

The line is formed with red

My eyes roll back in my head

You're tearing me away

I'm fine, or so I say

Your hands are warm against my heart

Unlike the knife you used to cut

The hole you fill so comfortably

But now I'm pouring out my guts

I will make room I'll empty out

I'll make sure you can move about

I'll change my everything for you

Just keep on doing what you do

The Queenstons were part of the furry musical project now known by the name of its creator, Emma Essex, and at the time part of the Lapfox Trax label. Comprising the siblings Renard (breakcore) and Jackal (drum n bass) Queenston, Essex's unique flavor for both these artists together create a haunting yet heavy album in What You Do.

(though the queenstons are fictional characters, the rest of this post will write as if they had motivations and artistic goals of their own, mainly because it makes much more sense this way)

Interplaying pain and pleasure marks one of the signature themes of Renard's work, whereas aggressive and industrial sounds are Jackal's metier. In What You Do, the two of them explore the nature of what it means to excise your soul to make room for someone else - acts not done in malice nor hatred but in love and helplessness. One cannot help but yield. The trauma is in you. It was always inside you.
