Do the inconvenient thing

The privacy <---> convenience spectrum is talked about often - where the more privacy and security focused you want to be, the more convenience you sacrifice. We've sort of just accepted this, and the people who want to be more privacy focused are willing to sacrifice on some of the convenience. But they're so few of us that the corporations don't really care and continue to make the inconveniences worse. They continue to overreach as corps always do and the 'Normies' don't really care because nothing is really changing for them.

If you ask any average person if they would like to improve their digital privacy and security 9/10 would say yes. But if you tell them the steps involved they'd go 'you know what that seems like effort, no thanks' . People want it, but they also don't want to change anything to get it.

That's how it should be. Privacy should be the default. Nobody should have to sacrifice a bunch of conveniences just to gain privacy and security. But to get to that point, people have to be willing to do the inconvenient things today. We need more people to adopt what are now somewhat niche privacy focused tools so that we see the continued development and improvement of those tools, otherwise the corps are going to keep squashing them like they always do. Privacy is already being criminalized. Simply caring about your data and wanting to be in control of it is now labelled 'suspicious activity'.

With the way things are going now, its like "Yeah I want to make things better but it demands some amount of effort and I am not willing to put in any" --> People in authoritarian regimes and whistleblowers and journalists and minorities are now getting murdered because they didn't have the tools to protect themselves. Because it was inconvenient for us.

This was never about us. Do the inconvenient thing.
