I have an issue with how I perceive pleasure, one that applies particularly to video games.

I should mention that I’ve enjoyed video games for most of my life (I have my own huge video game created), but in recent years, I’ve found it increasingly difficult to enjoy them.

I usually attribute this (in this order) to my depression, the association of the medium (the computer) with work, and comparisons with other activities.

After looking more closely at the nature of pleasure, I believe that last factor has recently become the most significant.

Now I'm someone who engages in sword fighting (and does it well), fires real firearms, and drives a Jeep; consequently, doing these things in a video game feels not only poor but consistently disappointing, especially regarding physical mechanics, an area where I’ve become very demanding. That said, there are still games I can play, though they tend to focus on aspects other than action.

Right now, I’m "exploring" further by trying to play a few titles I had a strong connection with in the past. We’ll see how it goes...
