The News

How do you consume news these days? When I was a kid there was no Internet so people replied on newspapers, TV, and radio. "Mainstream media" seems to have largely fallen out of favour but I think there's a danger of throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Some mainstream newspapers are held accountable to standards that online news sources aren't. I'm at a loss as to a strategy but I've landed on the following and I'm curious what other news junkies are up to these days.

I use Reuters with a paid sub to check out the day's news. That's the extent of me paying for news. In addition to that, I have an app which, via my local library, I can read newspapers and magazines for free. I use it to access The Globe and Mail and The Guardian. I also occasionally read articles from The Economist. That's pretty much it for mainstream news. I also have a couple YouTube channels hosted by different political and journalism experts. From what I've seen a lot of "new" or "alternative" media is usually someone giving an opinion of what they've consumed from a mainstream source. The thing mainstream, traditional outlets have going for them is they're doing the leg work and have people on the ground where the news is taking place all around the world. What needs sources do you trust and rely on these days, if any?
