[ESC]lots of feelings to get out with this post.
I cannot stand my job, but then again who DOESN’T hate their job, ammirite?!?!? The expectation and status quo is that you WILL work a job that you hate and you WILL learn to like it or else **YOU. WILL. FUCKING. DIE.**
We walk into tech buzz saws as if it’s what we were hired to do. We follow our gracious leader into anything, no matter what our feelings are on the subject, our expertise, NOTHING. The guy is an actual mouth breather in regard to tech, but he signs your paycheck so
DON’T QUESTION YOUR OVERLORDS, SILLY GOOSE, OR ELSE YOURS WILL BE COOKED
Is this a terrible idea likely to waste time, money, and resources? Absolutely. Will it lead to good people losing their jobs in one of the worst times to lose a job? YEAH, NO FUCKING SHIT. Same goes for the other plethora of times that this EXACT situation has happened. It’s even likely to sink the company in my opinion at this rate! Will anyone say “no” though? ANYONE? Will anyone at my workplace ACTUALLY hear my concerns?? Will ANYONE downright refuse?? Nah. Absolutely not, and why would you? Supreme Leader shit-for-brains DOES sign your paychecks after all…
Systems designed by people seem to echo themselves in both larger and smaller scales. For example, LAN -> MAN -> WAN. Might be a stretch, but bear with me for a sec. Maybe that’s just human nature for that to occur? It’d make sense for systems created by humans to scale down or up, echo’ing itself in different ways but still holding “root” similarities no matter what size you apply the system to. It’s the most efficient way, to be fair, and BOY HOWDY DOES THE HUMAN BRAIN LOOOOOVE EFFICIENCY. “Yeah this thing that works on a smaller scale? Just…make it bigger?” And that’s worked for us for millennia somehow
Which is what’s so terrifying about late-stage capitalism. All of us participating in this system do exactly we’re told and we’ll like it because our boss signs our paychecks. We need those paychecks or else we will literally fucking die. Doesn’t matter if it breaks the rules of the company, laws of the country, or even the laws of morality we all (generally) do our best to follow.
Which leads me to this: Continuing to accept that you need to do as your boss tells you (or else) almost naturally leads to where we are today. Unfathomably rich psychopaths getting away with some of the most horrific shit imaginable. At the end of the day “just doing your job because they sign your paycheck!” holds MUCH more blame in this situation than anyone seems to be comfortable with. Every LEO or FBI agent or sheriff that turned a blind eye, every pilot knowing who their passengers were (and what horrific shit they’ve done), every person involved who KNEW it was wrong and yet still chose a made up concept (MONEY) over humanity for the sake of “I just work here”. On a SIGNIFICANTLY smaller scale, am I no better than those people? Not the ones doing the fucked up shit, but the ones who enabled it? I mean hell, we’re terminating people left and right. Each of their profiles are shut down by MY hand as they go home jobless to their families. Objectively, I partake in a (albeit much smaller scale) system designed to cause suffering to those unfortunate enough to be born into the working class. I’m terrified to know what people are capable of shutting out of their minds for the sake of money. I do it to some extent everyday I go into work, Monday through Friday.
Terrifying times we’re in, folks. I’m just holding onto a sliver of hope that there’s a light at the end of this tunnel…
