Does anyone know or read heavy metal magazine?

It feels like it’s going through some kind of renaissance right now. The stories, covers and art features are all very provocative and thoughtful. If you ever wanted to jump into something new, now is definitely the moment.

There was a time in the past not super long ago when it felt like every cover was just some random painted woman for sex appeal. I never looked through the books because it felt so uncreative and lame at face value. I likely missed out on some really cool stories at that time. I’m not sure if this is when Kevin Eastman (of ninja turtles) was or was no longer publishing the books or if it’s even related.

The first movie was really goofy fun and it’s one of the best soundtrack albums of all time, too. It might actually be my favourite record on its own. I never really got around to seeing the second one, but I think the soundtrack has Voivod and Billy idol? I’m not sure. I heard a while ago there was supposed to be another heavy metal film and tenacious D Was apparently supposed to have a segment or new musical appearance as well… It’s probably been dropped but I always wonder what kind of art is lost in NDA hell forever from projects like that.

Love Death + Robots (And to a lesser extent “secret level”) Is definitely a series in the same vein as well, which I 100% recommend if you want to see something very weird and cool. (There’s also an artbook and a lot of the conceptual artists post their work online, so please check them out).

It’s a bucket list item to do some art or a story for heavy metal or metal hurlant down the line. There’s nothing really like it anymore in physical print.
