The one about how I hate the reddit algorithm for throwing so much negative toxic bullshit...
To add to what I was saying, the moment I got on I was bombarded with posts of people
- Losing their job to ai
- Firing employees to replace them with ai
- Asking for help learning ai to get a job
- Giving tips on how to curate CVs for ai filters
- Showing how they use ai to automate their lives
- Posting slop coded apps
- Discussing models
- Discussing being unemployed
- Talking about their jobs becoming torturously fast pased and high pressure from an expected productivity increase from ai tools
Like I get it, it's the new paradigm shift, the new thing, the pillar of our global economy. But I'm burnt out, I can't wander around the forums and online spaces I used to because they are full on ai, for or against, it doesn't matter.
I got into a systems engineering degree from an interesting on ai, I took extra classes, outside courses on machine learning, regression algorithms, neural network and the new shiny thing for that time, encoder/decoders and transformer architecture. But now my interest is dead, the technology lost that maleable side, it became huge, colossal and out of my reach, I could train models for niche tasks in my shitty laptop if I wanted, nowadays not even the worst frontier model demands ram the size of my ssd, it became a sector for corporates and industry giants. It made me want to pivot my degree in another direction, as far from ai as possible in the cs sphere. I even changed my thesis topic, I thought for 4 years my graduation project would be on ai before I got tired and changed my mind.
I'm about to graduate now so too late to change to electronics/electrical engineering, so I'll probably specialize on some embedded stuff if I can since the frontend guys and web devs seem to be the most fucked right now. It's great prospect to be the less replaceable on the top replaceable field right now /s. I'm sad for anyone who worked on writing of any kind, like copying, proofreading or translating, this whole thing is unbearably fucked for you.
