The official account of Devyn Genjima from CRIMES RETOLD ENTERTAINMENT EU, the main writer behind SECURITY ISSUE the novel.
After much diliberation I have decided to use Sway instead of River. The Documentation for Sway is better, it is more stable and less bleeding-edge, it has a simpler config, more people would know how to use it, and it is built with keyboard users in mind. Technicaly River is more lightwight but I think the benifits outway the disadvantages.
Should I use the libraWolf browser or something like Browsh or lynx? I’m worried about not having the benefits of a modern browser if I used something like Browsh but I’m also afraid that using something like libraWolf would break the strict TUI design philosophy. Astral-OS is meant to be used as an OS for Cyberdecks and potentially desktops and laptops as well and I think it could limit the use case without a modern browser. I am leaning toward a highly modified version of libraWolf to make it as similar...
I’ve wanted to do this for a while so here goes.
I think I can finally say with confidence that I am Queer. It took me a very long time to get here and I still have a ways to go but I’ve figured myself out a bit. I’ve come to the realization that I am on the Asexual spectrum. Don’t know exactly where but I don’t really care for micro labels personally. It was really difficult never having a random crush always made me feel like I was falling behind or broken. Kids at my school would be taking about...
Dang it! I just figured out that Void linux was not booting on my proxmox server due to secure boot being enabled. In my humble opinion, secure boot is more trouble than it is worth to me.
Anyway, I am now continuing development of Astral-OS on my server insted of doing it localy on my desktop. I'm going to be traveling a lot soon so this will allow me to contine development remotely.
Someday I would like to hook up 4 or 5 computers each one running with an AI that just browses the internet downloading and sharing malware and viruses with the other computers in the cluster. In a couple of days I would get a digital petri dish of computer gore.
Man I hate windows! like seriously how does microslop manage to get away with caring this little about their users? Operating Systems are meant for users and it should be priority to make the expereance as smooth as possible. And yet we get AI shoved into each nook and cranny of Windows, microsoft recall, auto updates, various bugs and genaral pain. I will never use a Mac but MAN I do see the benifits of a "Just works" OS like Mac, there are things I dislike about Mac but at least they give their users...
Due to unforeseen VM weirdness I have been struggling to properly get Astral OS running on my Proxmox server. However I am now resuming OS development since I’ve gotten my server mostly set up. The next steps are to stabilize the river compositor and keep it from crashing. After that I will be implementing and configuring Zellij and ensuring it suits my needs. I am also wondering if I should go with a full text based browser and accept the limitations of it or go with a heavily modified Firefox that still...
Okay I will definitely be upgrading my server’s CPU ASAP. I’m currently using an i5-4590 with only 4 cores. I tried updating Openmediavault and it proved to be a bit much. I would kill for a threadripper.
My Proxmox server is up and running! Tomorrow I plan on setting up a NAS, jellyfin server, and a VM for Astral-OS development.
Oh how I wish I had Ethernet in my room!
Today I fixed 5 separate errors I was getting with Astral-OS. Progress is being made but I’m still experiencing issues with River not starting.
I ordered a Kingston SSD, thermal paste and a SSD caddy so I can use my servers disk drive to hold my SSD. So when all that arrives in a few days I can set up proxmox and resume Astral-OS development.
For some reason I borked my river setup in Astral-OS and now I’m stuck in a login loop, pretty sure it has something to do with the runtime variable and sudo privileges. Anyway it’s way too late at night to be dealing with this so I’m going to lie awake for 3 hours contemplating my naïve thinking of “how hard could this possibly be? I’m basing everything off of void Linux so most of the work is already done!” But I’m in too deep now! I can’t stop! I’ve committed too many hours to this project to quit! I...
Holy moly I cleaned out my server and found enough dust to clone the previous owner!
Development of Astral-OS should resume in the next few weeks once I finish setting up my server. After a bit of testing I’m confident that the compositor will be River. The next steps are going to be to implement the terminal multiplexer Zellij. Thanks for the patience during this brief hiatus from the project.
I am now the proud owner of a 9 year old hp elitedesk 800 g1 that originally came with windows 7 and has a disk drive. This is my going to be my new home server. It will be running containers for jellyfin, trueNAS, and a dedicated VM for developing Astral-OS remotely. I have yet to turn it on but it has at least 16gb of DDR4 RAM, an unidentified Zotac gaming dual fan GPU, and probably an i5 processor. Still a lot of unknowns but ill keep updating y’all!...
Should I put Linux on my laptop? It’s not like I really use any of the Microsoft apps but as a student, getting rid of them seems a little like tempting fate. I know how to set up and use virtual machines and I’m fairly confident that it if I just need Microsoft Teams or something, that a VM would be just fine. I have been using Linux for a while and really enjoy it, the more I use windows the more I hate it and all its stupid limitations, the AI, the poor user experience, privacy concerns, and the...
In a few days I am going to be picking up an old office PC from a friend and turn it into a home server running Open media vault, navidrome and tailscale on proxmox. Of course some of this might change but I’ll keep posting updates here. Anyway this project will be taking priority over Astral-OS development so there might not be updates on that for a few weeks. The plan is to start up a NAS, media server and get remote access between the server and my laptop so I can develop Astral-OS on the server...
Okay it seems I can't make up my mind about what compositor I will use. I installed sway today and after some testing, I determend that it was too heavy and was just not minimal enough. So to replace sway I installed river. So far it seems to be the right fit, it is minimal, very lightwight and leaves most of the configuration to the user. If anyone has other suggestions let me know and I'll check them out.

slight change of plans, noting major. I just decided to go with Sway insted of labwc because it was better documented and I actuly know how to use it. Nothing should really change though, I'm just going to have to do some configuration so that it auto starts a fullscreen terminal.
