Finally saw Ghost in the shell (1995) recently!

No secret to anyone who's seen my previous posts about Blade Runner, but I'm a HUGE fan of Cyberpunk media!

Only recently started watching the classic cyberpunk movies. Started with Blade Runner 1&2, not sure if it's cyberpunk but I've seen the Tron movies, 2012 DREDD, Robocop, and probably a bit more I just haven't realized or don't feel fit the definition of cyberpunk.

But back to GITS. Like Blade Runner, I love the exploration of sentience and what it really means to be human. Is it sentience? Is it simply having a sense of humanity? The story is awesome and overall I loved it.

Along with the story, I absolutely loved the designs and art of it all!

Firstly, the environment always managed to be so intricate and yet nothing felt like it was over-designed, I absolutely loved it!

Second, the characters. Kusanagi herself was such a badass and I loved her throughout the whole story. And apart from her design I loved the philosophical aspect of her character and the questions she asked herself. I'd go more into depth but then this post would probably double in length lol. Then there's Batou. competent and badass just like Kusanagi. Always on her side even when she wants to merge with 2501. So greatly supportive of who I like to believe he sees as family, I love his design and character so much. Then there's 2501. The AI that grew into sentience. Such an interesting and profound character, and largely reminds me of Roy from Blade Runner. Something decidingly not human, yet yearns for humanity and wishes for nothing more than to be human. It's always such an interesting and entertaining aspect of a story imo.

And last but not least the story itself. It's fantastic and so entertaining. Again, the exploration of humanity is very well done. Along with that, the chase of 2501 and the politics involved are very entertaining.

Overall it was a great movie, and if you're ok with gore (not much) and nudity (fairly prominent) I'd absolutely recommend it!
