project detox day 0

I detailed my plan and reasonings in a bit of a manifesto that was surprisingly cathartic to write. Today I guess I'll make this my first detox journal.

The first half of yesterday was all about planning and getting the right systems in place. Setting expectations and hard rules was vital for this.

  • No caffeine after noon - I'd made a bad habit of having an energy drink before my after-work training. That would lead me to stay up late and not sleep well, which lead me to stay up late doing mostly nothing but scrolling, which lead me to have a garbage next day because I was sleepy. The simple fix was easy, but the more complicated part will be better managing my nutrition so I have the energy to train well in the afternoon.
  • No X or YouTube - Like I said in the last post, hard rules are required. Even if someone sends me a video or a post, I can't relent. I don't want it to start leaking back into my life.
  • Write daily - I have the cyberpunk wiki, my own blog and a cyberpunk fantasy worldbuilding project to write for, among many other things that I want to write on. I set a hard rule that I need to write for at minimum 30 minutes per day. Even weekends.

My focuses over the next 6 months:

  • Training really hard - I have a marathon in December (I've only ever run a half), an Ironman in September of next year (I've never swam the length of a pool, much less 2 or so miles) and ideally a BJJ competition next year. I need to train hard and get my nutrition in order.
  • Build radc0rp - My R&D "business" is currently a vibecoded site with no real launched projects and negative net revenue after hosting and things are taken into account. There's fairly little "research" or "development" going on in this R&D outfit... That needs to change. I've got an avenue to start working on over the next 6 months that could get me to revenue, and it is also deeply interesting to me. More on that later.
  • Build myself - I am 30 but I am of the belief that self-improvement is constant over the entirety of one's life, from 8 to 80. The next 6 months isn't about beating myself up about wasting my time before, but it is about acknowledging where I am and where I want to be. This means setting the habits I've always wanted to identify with: training, reading, researching, writing and learning.
  • Flex my creative muscles - Training for fitness, strength and endurance has been a huge part of my life since I was like 15. Training for creativity... less so. I'm working on this by refocusing on learning music. I don't want to just strum around some chords on the guitar, though. I want to release an EP early next year. Something cool and experimental. More on that later as well.

I'm trying to spend less time "talking about it" and more time executing, so I'm going to leave this detox journal here. It's been cool chatting with everyone in the comments of these posts.
