[ESC]The GeekCube is getting DVD reading capabilities!
Currently editing my project post on TechPowerUp Forum with today's new addition!
it's a 40€ ASUS CD/DVD burner that's millimeters bigger than the discs themselves & ultrathin, barely over 1cm thick!
got successfully recognized by my CachyOS desktop, though I should definitely test it out on SteamOS as well to be sure, I tested it out with movie DVDs (Spiderman, Shrek, Stuart Little 2...) that are as old as I am : I used to watch those on my PS2! the nostalgia blast, man...
VLC read the movies perfectly as long as you don't mount the disc! my idiot ass mounted the discs and it took me a few tries before understanding it doesn't need to be mounted for VLC to work it out, otherwise it'll try to parse through the entire disk and saturate the reader, stuttering the movie like crazy
made a quick edit to my case's CAD model to adjust the slot it is going into + cable passthrough, which should then add all around media center capabilities to the Cube! No bluray, not because there weren't bluray capable readers, there are but they also are 4-5 times the price (similar size though, which is impressive tbh)
