Hello everyone! This is my first post here and today I'm gonna introduce you to my current pet project; GeekCube Pro - "We have GabeCube at home" (link to forum thread which includes all the intricate details)

This is my attempt at making a DIY Steam Machine following these objectives:

  • Stick to a 1000€ total cost*

  • Get the latest HW generation (besides the SSD, PCIe5 is functionally useless for us consumers)

  • Retain form factor/footprint scale

  • Maintain entire feature set

  • Support decent, simple customizability

  • for base build & features, doesn't include customizability

I am very pleased to share that I successfully achieved the first (if you squint a little bit, 1050€ passes for 1000€ XD), second and third objectives, fourth point is materially supported by what I've got but I will have to test it once I have built the PC and installed SteamOS on it, though if I go by the information I've gleaned here and there, I'm pretty sure I cleared that bar; I have plenty of ideas for customization that I'm still drafting & adding details little by little, including but not limited to:

  • a 3D printed chassis w/ better vents, carry handles, storage slots (for cables & peripherals)
  • e-ink front screen for system vitals & other customizable status or medias
  • custom magnetic side panels w/ vinyl wraps (dbrand skins kinda stuff)

I got all the parts but one, will stream the build as soon as everything's there and if you have any feedback/ideas, you're more than welcome to share! Enjoy the read! TechPowerUp.com - Forum post on the project
