Most people live their lives between two places: Home and Work (or school, depending on your age)
I remember, in my youth, the places I would spend time with friends between home and school, places where we could be social, meet new friends, and not have to be at one of the two usual spaces.
Sometimes this was a local playground, field, skate park, or a setting like card game leagues at the nearby Toys R Us for Yu-Gi-Oh or Pokemon battles.
More and more of these third places have shut down and now it feels difficult to find one that you don't have to pay to occupy (a bar or restaurant for example). Many of our third places are now online and heavily driven by corporate algorithms.
Thank goodness for spaces like Cyberspace that remember what it means to be a Social NETWORK rather than Social MEDIA.
If you're interested in tech and want something fun to do on Friday nights from 2100 - 2300 Eastern, I recently started a new style of stream that I've taken to calling The Third Place. Currently the stream is on Twitch with VODs uploaded to YouTube. It's intended to be more of a "hang out and learn" than any sort of "watch me do things and talk AT you". I want it to be a collaborative space to explore ideas and all learn from each other.
I cover topics like "Gaslighting ai models," "A beginner's guide to the Fediverse," "Exploring NekoWeb indie sites," and more. I'm by no means an expert in any of these topics, but I know enough to be dangerous and again, the idea is to learn collaboratively. It's been so much fun so far.
Since I'm not sure what else to share on my profile here, I'll try to keep up with posting the topic for each week's stream ahead of time for anyone that wants to come hang out. Links below to the stream and to the intro video I made for the project.
