The Third Place (260918) - Comfort Eagle

This coming week, on The Third Place, I want to start a side project I've had cooking in my mind for a while now:

Build an open-source, privacy focused religion, hosted on GitHub (at least for now)

The main idea here is to establish privacy practices into a religious system to, hopefully, eventually provide religious protections for E2EE and privacy practices that may come under further threat. Essentially doing for privacy what organizations like TST try to do for bodily autonomy.

The secondary idea, and what I want to start with, is to create something non-theistic that anyone can adopt, copy, modify, or contribute to.

For this project, we will be working with markdown files to keep things text-centered (like the good ol' days). We will work together to create the core belief system and keep it as clear and to-the-point as possible. A sort of Philosophical Kernel that everything else will build upon. The CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 licence seems to be the best fit as I want to make sure the core ideas stay open-source and un-fucked by corpos.

Clear guidelines will need to be set for contributing to the project, as I also want to be able to compile text files for people to share tech- and privacy-related stories, to create their own "book of __" within the project, as well as a place to share tutorials, links to other projects, a library of useful resources, etc.

Let me be very up-front: I don't have a great understanding of GitHub as I am not a programmer/coder. I am learning what I can, but I learn best by doing, so this will be a bit of a learning experience for me as well. If you're familiar with GitHub and want to lend your knowledge to the creation of this project, or if you just want to be there for the fun of making something, stop by The Third Place on Friday, Sept. 18th at 21:00 EST and let's start something fun.
