Cyberdeck or something else?

Saw a video last week that dove into why "there are no cyberdeck, actually" because the term was originally used to refer to a technology that was both corporately mass produced and worked with a neural interface, not screens and not homebrewed.

It didn't seem like the point was to poo-poo all over everyone's good time, so much as it was just to make a point that we needn't have gatekeepers in the community saying what is and isn't a cyberdeck when technically nothing is.

This got me to thinking: should we use a different term for custom computer builds? I know the short story Cyberpunk referred to the portable gadgets as "microterms" which is fun, but it feels like there's gotta be something more fitting and more punk that we could use. Maybe cyberdeck is it, but I think the act of customizing a machine for yourself, whether that's just sticker-bombing a laptop and installing a flavor of Linux to have more control, or if you're custom modeling your own chassis and printing your own circuit boards, is a truly personal and rebellious (and awesome) act and I'd love to see everyone doing it, no matter the level of complexity.

Interested to hear what you guys think. Does "cyberdeck" encompass this for you, or is there a term you prefer? Or do you not give a dang either way? Let me know.
