Want a TERMINAL TOOL which can do EVERYTHING?

Yeah, me neither.

But... X-CMD may have proved me wrong...

https://www.x-cmd.com/

What is this tool?

X-CMD gives you access to better versions of normal terminal tools AND puts tools you haven't installed right under your finger tips.

Example 1:

x find

This will start an "interactive" version of find.

Example 2:

x mac battery

This shows how much juice you have left in your battery (if it is a Mac).

Example 3:

x ip

This will list your local and public IP addresses.

Why install this?

X-CMD will give you:

  • a better version of ping (x ping)
  • a better version of find (x find)
  • a better version of ls (x ls)
  • a better version of df (x df)

X-CMD also makes tools like these available to you without* installing them:

  • Emoji selector (x emoji)
  • Search Duck Duck Go (x ddgo)
  • FFMpeg (x ffmpeg)
  • Gemini (@gemini "question")

*In some cases, X-CMD does install things... somewhere... but I never figured out where...

Why I uninstalled X-CMD

X-CMD is great. But it is a bit weird too.

It's sort of like running apps directly out of an app store.

When I install a terminal app, I like to know what it is doing.

However, X-CMD "just works". There's stuff going on behind the curtain but it's not entirely clear what is happening and where that Gemini API key was just saved...

If you've tried X-CMD and think I've bailed too quickly, please let me know. It's an interesting project and is packed with a lot of great tools. I think I just need to learn more about how it works before giving it another spin.
