Dev Yapping: Monster Design

Hey horror fans! I wanna talk about the Others, the monsters the GM gets to play against the party in The Veil is Torn. Each one is based upon an established horror trope, and each has a specific method for being defeated. I only have 4 thought up currently, and would like to have 6 for the full release, so if you have any ideas/suggestions, I'd love to hear them.


Genre: Biological Horror

Monster: a sentient, parasitic fungus that mutates its victims.

Gameplay: zombie apocalypse. Players have to fight through wave after wave of weak minions in order to find and destroy the source.


Genre: technological horror

Monster: A rogue AI that is running a draconian surveillance state, implementing more and more unrealistic laws.

Gameplay: players either need to infiltrate and destroy the AI's headquarters, or trick it into breaking its own laws.


Genre: nautical horror

Monster: an impossibly ancient drowned god threatens to be awoken by a cult who thinks it will reverse the apocalypse.

Gameplay: players must discover the cult members and defeat them, destroying their ritual artifacts before time runs out.


Genre: slasher

Monster: an escaped, near-invulnerable science experiment stalks the party relentlessly.

Gameplay: players must avoid being caught while trying to discover the creature's weakness.
