Some thoughts on social media

Hey you,

I am momo. I abandoned most of the social media accounts I had a few years ago because I was really addicted to the doomscrolling and I genuinely hated seeing adds. I was missing how enjoyable internet was for me many years ago, so I started to look for alternatives. Gladly I found cyberspace so there was no doubt on joining in, and here I am.

The feeling of posting something here already feels like a breeze, a pause from the current digital content. I do love internet and tech so I am trying to approach it from a more healthy way. I want it to be something that brings me joy like back in the days and not something that will trigger my anxiety, will try to sell me something or will feed the big tech without my consent.

I don't feel very understood when I discuss these things with people irl, they don't seem to have the same feeling or question their habits. I see social media and today's internet as an addiction, like cigarretes when they became popular. People didn't know how harmful they were until consequences happened. Probably my algorithm echo chamber makes me believe most people feels this way, but it doesn't seem to be like that out there.

Nowadays I still have my accounts, I formed this parasocial cybernetic alter-ego and I am attached to their nickname and digital life. I am working on deleting or making private most of it, little by little with patience and no judgement to my old and younger self. It is being quite a journey!

If you read all of this I really appreciate it and I would love to read back your thoughts and opinions.

Cheers,
momo
