A guide to field medicine for active duty soldiers and field medics vol 1

Congratulations on your draft.

As part of your mandatory field survival course you are required to learn about the main forms of field medicine and thair use cases.

At the end of this volume there will be a practical and theoretical test about how to apply and use what you learned here.

Infront of you there should be 2 types of injectors a red tipped one and a blue tipped one.

Notice the cap. When the dome is facing out of the injector it is unused and applicable.

If the dome is ressesed into the injector it has been used and should be considered a biohazard. If an available disposal method is available (biohazard containers/bags a biohazard drop off zone or a medical tent) please dispose of it accordingly. If no such method exists take the syringe and bash the needle side of it into a wall or any other hard surface in order to break it rendering the syringe unusable. Please note that this method should only be used if no other option is available.

Take a look at the color of the syringe tips now.

The red ones are what we call combat stims. Thair main use is to provide focus and increase your senses while also provideing increased reflexes.

These stims are mostly uncommon in the battlefield due to their cost and are only issued to special forces or following specific orders.

If you find unused combat stims on the battlefield and are able to recover them you are required to hand them over to the nearest medical tent.

Now face your attention to the blue tipped syringe.

This is your standard medical syringe. It is used to treat bleeding and to help with head trauma blocked airways and general trauma.

When using medical syringes to stop bleeding it is important to remember that the injector is not a replacement for medical attention. Bandage the wound if possible and apply a tourniquet according to the instructions in the later volumes of this course.

Using the medical syringe will induce vomiting do note that this is normal and expected to happen. If available water should be given and a wait period of 20 min should commance prior to return to combat.

A guide on using medical injectors.

In this chapter we will go over how to apply medical injectors in a field application.

Step 1.
During any preperation for a field mission one should check the expiration date on his syringe pack.
Syringes need to be replaced every 2 years or so, failing to do so could result in serious injury and or death. If your syringes are found to be out of date retrieve a new pack from the nearest medical facility immediately. When using other people's syringes it is highly recommended to check the expiration date as to ensure full safety.

Step 2.

Check for already applied injectors.
This step is most important when dealing with injecting another person. The injectors are incompatible with one another. Therefor it is important to make sure you dont mix them. Ask the person who you are injecting what is the last injector they used and how long ago it was. If they are unconscious or do not recall make sure to check thair body yourself if you have time or the main injection area if you dont. The injectors leave a mark that should last for the period of time the injector is active. Based on the color of it you can determine the used injector. If the injector you are applying matches the color of the mark and no more than one mark is present you are free to proceed to the next step. If the alternate mark exists you are to wait until it fades.

Step 3.

Face the injector so that your thumb is on the side of the colored dome. And remove the cap from the other end of the injector. Push the injector into the left arm of the recipient and press the colored dome until you hear a click.

It is now safe to remove the syringe and dispose of it.

If there exists a reason where the left arm of the recipient is inaccessible and/or there is a problem with injecting the left arm. Other parts of the body work as well. It is important to inject the left arm if possible as it is the agreed upon injection place and will be the most noticible in case further treatment is needed.

Dealing with injector overdose and incompatibility.

If an issue arises where an incorrect injection led to an overdose or incompatibility it is important to do the following steps.

Step 1.
Get another person to hold down the patient.

Step 2.

Apply a tourniquet to the injected area.

Step 3.

Mark the time on the forehead of the patient.

Step 4.

If a medical facility or medical professional is present get the affected person there immediately.

If no medical personnel are present restrain the patient and check on them regularly. Earlier application of the tourniquet ensures a higher chance of survival.

Remember the instructions and practice them regularly. Remember "A practiced soldier is a deadly soldier"
