A love letter to Linux Mint

I often think how lucky I am to be a small part of the story of the things I own. Truly caring for them while in my possession. Tinkering and giving them new life. Physical things degrade, and won't last forever but I find that making them last for as long as possible, makes me learn things I never thought I would and and become part of new communities.

I ran Ubuntu on my computer in elementary school, safe to say it wan't the easiest when technical support was clueless. But, in a small way it hardened me and showed me that 1) people aren't always gonna be able to help, so learn how to help yourself. 2) I felt super cool, haha. Free open source software is amazing. Yes, it might be buggy, and have quirks at times but they are great teachers. They build up your autonomy and do away with learned helplessness. Fix it.

Now I run Linux Mint on a laptop too old for its own good. And while Arch and Alpine might be fun for the more tech-savy and to tinker with, Linux mint lets even us common folk be a part of the fun. Don't get me wrong, the future surely holds other distros for me but for now, when I just need things to work, Linux Mint is the answer. Only entry level setup was needed. A distro like this makes broad inclusion of people possible. Even inclusion of those who otherwise devote their lives to something completely different. So, thanks.
