[ESC]Yesterday I stopped by the local St. Vinny’s like I often do to see if I can find interesting things. I happened to come across an old RCA tube television. I powered it on in the store and it came up with a green screen, but after a couple of light taps it went away and got the normal screen of static and digital channel indicator. My daughter has really been wanting to play Duck Hunt, so I figured for $12 it would be worth giving it a try.
I got it home and, after stopping by the local retro video game shop for an RF adapter, had her up and running with some classic Duck Hunt frustration. It has brought up the idea that our little family had to have a 90’s summer. Less tablets and phones and more books, game consoles, actual computers, physical media, and outside time. My daughter is very excited about this idea, my wife and I can already see her growing her brain figuring out how to wiggle the NES cartridge correctly to get it working on the old TV. I’m excited to see how this new perspective goes for her.
